Dr. Michael A. Matos Ed.D

I’m an educator, leader, and author with over 16 years of experience in K–12 education, working across classrooms, behavior intervention, instructional coaching, and school leadership support. My work centers on one core idea: what actually works in real schools—not just in theory, but in practice.

I am the author of How School Leaders Motivate Teachers in Real Classrooms: The Practitioner’s Playbook, where I break down how leadership behaviors directly impact teacher motivation, engagement, and school culture. My focus is on the reality of leadership—how it’s experienced by teachers, not just how it’s intended by leaders.

Throughout my career, I’ve supported students with complex behavioral needs, coached teachers through high-pressure situations, and helped schools build systems that are both effective and sustainable. I’m especially passionate about how perception, communication, and trust shape the success of any school environment.

I’m also the creator of The Staffroom Underground, a space dedicated to unfiltered conversations in education—where leadership, humor, policy, and real classroom experiences come together.

At my core, I believe this:
When leadership improves, teacher motivation improves. And when teachers are motivated, everything else follows.
